4. Our Mexico Getaway
The anticipation was palpable as we counted down the days to our long-awaited Mexico getaway. From our respective cities, New York and Paris, Lawrence and I were buzzing with excitement. We had meticulously planned this trip, imagining the warm Mexican sun, a vibrant culture, and thrilling adventures that awaited us. The day finally arrived, and we boarded our flights, hearts racing with the thought of reuniting in Los Angeles before embarking on our dream cruise.

The Reunion in Los Angeles
Landing in Los Angeles felt like a dream. As I walked out of the terminal, I knew it would be only a matter of time before greeting Lawrence with a wide grin and open arms. The reunion was sweet, filled with laughter and happy tears. We had a brief stay in Los Angeles to explore a bit of the city, savor some local cuisine, and prepare ourselves for the cruise ahead. The city’s energy was infectious, but the real adventure was yet to come. These are the moments that I savor the most. They’ll live in perpetuity as the years pass by and we build on the experiences that mark the highs and lows of our relationship.
Arrival at the Cruise Ship
The next day, we made our way to The Port of Los Angeles . As we approached the ship, Lawrence was in awe of its sheer size. "It's like a floating city!" Lawrence exclaimed, his eyes wide with amazement. The Navigator of The Seas was indeed a marvel, towering over us with its multiple decks and luxurious amenities. We quickly checked in, eager to start our journey. Our cabin was incredibly spacious and offered a stunning view of the ocean. It boasted a beautiful balcony with stunning panoramic views of the harbor —our home for the next week.
The Covid-19 Scare
Our excitement hit a snag when we experienced a Covid-19 scare on the second day of our voyage. A slight cough and a bit of fatigue left us anxious, and the ship’s doctor advised us to isolate ourselves in our cabin for 24 hours as a precaution. Those hours felt long, but we kept each other’s spirits up by watching movies, talking about our future plans, and trying to stay positive. Fortunately, the test results came back negative, and we were given the all-clear to rejoin the cruise activities.
Exploring Cabo San Lucas
Our first stop was Cabo San Lucas, and it did not disappoint. The rugged cliffs, stunning beaches, and lively atmosphere made for a perfect day. We explored the famous Arch of Cabo San Lucas, went snorkeling, and indulged in delicious local seafood. Walking hand in hand on the sandy shores, we felt a renewed sense of freedom and joy.
Ziplining in Ensenada
Next, we arrived in Ensenada, where we had planned an exhilarating ziplining adventure. The thrill of soaring above the lush landscapes was indescribable. The adrenaline rush brought out our adventurous sides, and we couldn’t stop laughing and cheering each other on. Ensenada’s beauty from above was breathtaking, and the experience was a highlight of our trip.
Relaxing in Puerto Vallarta
Our final stop was Puerto Vallarta, known for its pristine beaches and vibrant culture. We spent our days lounging on the sun-kissed beaches, sipping on tropical drinks, and soaking in the serene atmosphere. The evenings were filled with romantic strolls along the Malecón, the city’s famous boardwalk, enjoying street performances and trying local delicacies.
Reflecting on Our Journey
As our cruise came to an end, we couldn’t help but reflect on the incredible journey we had shared. From the initial excitement in Los Angeles to overcoming the Covid-19 scare and experiencing the wonders of Mexico, every moment brought us closer together. But this trip was more than just the getaway we envisioned; it was more than the anticipated vacation away from the office and meetings and financial reports. It was indeed another test of our personalities and temperament. Another moment to share a space in each other’s lives and appreciate the proclivities and nuances that ultimately make or break a relationship. I believe we both rose to the occasion. Sure, there were moments of doubt and frustration; but looking back we met each moment with an openness and vulnerability that only two mature individuals could muster.
Conclusion: The Power of Shared Experiences
Our Mexico getaway was more than just a vacation; it was a celebration of our love and commitment. The challenges we faced only strengthened our bond, and the beautiful memories we created will always hold a special place in our hearts. For anyone in a long-distance relationship, we hope our story inspires you to embrace the journey, cherish the moments, and look forward to the adventures that lie ahead.
